On the 21st November 2015, TEMP had successfully carried out their first activity for this semester, to pay a visit to the Enggang community at the Enggang Flats located in Puchong. The students departed from Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus to the Enggang Flats at 12pm, and the whole activity ended at around 3pm.

The main objective for this visit is to listen to their stories and to see in what ways we can help the community in terms of what they need. The student volunteers visited 10 families in total, they also bought some gifts for the family which mainly consisted of biscuits and can food which can last them for a period of time.

Besides talking to the family and noting down on what they need as well as what kind of support they require in order to live a better life, our student volunteers also had a fun time playing games with the children to create good memories together.

This meaningful visit was organized by our TEMP director, Patricia Anne Roges, and her committee members, Agnes Lim, Lim Jia Wen, Kimberley Tey, and other kind and helpful volunteers.
Realizing the benefit of such initiatives to communities in need and its sudents,Taylor School Of Pharmacy is planning to have fund raising activities in order to help those poor families and plan more efficient and sustainable outreach programmes  in the near future.

The School of Pharmacy Annual Sports Day was held on 1st November 2015 at Sports Complex, Taylors University Lakeside. Registration took place at 8.30a.m.  where the students were divided and arranged according to their respective teams. A speech was given by lecturer Dr.Bibhu Prasad which marked the official opening of the event.

At 9.05a.m, a warm-up session was conducted to prepare the participants for the marathon run. The total distance for the run is 3 kilometres which is approximately equal to 2 rounds around the campus. The marathon run was supposed to start at 9.20a.m.but it got delayed due to some unforeseen circumstances caused by miscommunication with security department. The problem was solved and the marathon run started at 9.35a.m. The participants who got into Top 3 in completing the run were rewarded 50 points for their respective team. Top 4 to Top 10 were rewarded 30 points while 10 points were rewarded to the rest of participants who completed the race.

Breakfast comprised of meehoon, a piece of curry puff and drink was provided to the participants after they have completed the run.  The participants were given 30 minutes of break. Next activity was aerobics performances. Each team was required to select a song and perform the aerobics. The participants were good in performing and put in a lot of effort in arranging the performance. It was nice to see how the solid teamwork had made the teams to be even stronger and united.

At 11.10a.m., dodge ball and captain ball matches were carried out simultaneously at two different courts. Team Red and Green competed in dodge ball match while Team Blue and Team Yellow competed in captain ball match. After 3 consecutive matches, the teams swapped and played. It was honourable to see lecturers who played along with the participants. Their participation had proven the true underlying sportsmanship. All the teams became competitive to get points for their own respective team. The Dean of School of Pharmacy, Prof Thomas came to support despite his busy schedules. He gave words of motivations to the participants which was indeed inspiring.

After the matches, lunch was provided. Participants were given 30 minutes break. After the break, stations game were carried out which were Newspaper Mummy, Balloon Games and Three-legged race. Everyone had fun in playing the stations game. Next activity on the list was Running Man. The concept of this game is purely based on the Korean variety show which one team will be the hunter team while another team will be the searcher team. Before each team got to decide their roles, they need to play a preliminary game which was Ping Pong Stacking. Each team sent a representative to complete with each other. The fastest person to complete the mission would be given the upper hand to choose the role they wanted for their team, either as the hunters or as the searchers.

Team Red and Team Green competed with each other and their location was at Block D( from Level 2 to Level 9).Team Red were the searchers while Team Green were the hunters. On the other hand, Team Blue and Team Yellow competed with each other and their location were at Block E(from Level 2 to Level 9). Team Blue were the searchers while Team Yellow were the hunters. It was entertaining to watch how the participants were so enthusiastic in completing their tasks in Running Man.

Running Man ended at 3.15p.m. The last event of the day was the prize-giving session. After all the accumulation of points, Team Red came up as champion. Team Yellow got second place followed by Team Green with third place. Team Blue got fourth place. There were medals and prizes allocated for each team. A lucky draw session was conducted and 10 lucky participants were selected. Token of appreciations were given to the Dean of School of Pharmacy, Prof.Thomas and other lecturers who came for the event.

Overall, this event was successful due to the overwhelming supports from the lecturers and students. A total of 67 students and 7 lecturers took part in this event. There were minor circumstances that happened during the event but those problems were solved. It was indeed a tiring day but everyone was happy and had fun.
